what is page rank or pr for short so page rank is an algorithm that’s used by google search to rank web pages in their search engine results now this page rank algorithm was initially made not by google but by robin lee and robin lee created this algorithm he called it link analysis and this guy
is the guy who started i and i’m sorry that i butchered this i know it’s it’s not right but i think it’s badou or baidu or i’m sorry i don’t know what it what it’s called but this is what the algorithm was initially used on then google uh founder larry page patented basically this algorithm that was
created as page rank for google about a year later now the way page rank works is it it uses a system a mathematical system to rank pages based on how many incoming links are going to those pages here’s an example of kind of what it looks like here back in the day you used to be
able to actually see the page rank of your pages and you would be able to tell how easy you can rank those pages based on the page rank that they have about four or five years ago i believe google actually took out the page rank toolbar that it used to have i’m trying to find the toolbar
let’s see if i can just command f here we go google toolbar so there used to be a google toolbar that would show you what the page rank of any page would look like and i’m trying to find a
Sreenshot but i guess i can’t find one there it is it’s right there so give you like this little green bar
because a ton of people were manipulating this google took this out you can’t see the page rank
anymore even though page rank is still a large part of the algorithm google still uses this initial algorithm as a way to value see how valuable your pages are now you can you can see other
metrics these days that are estimated like for instance ahrefs or semrush or some of the seo tools out there will tell you what they estimate your domain authority is which is supposed to be kind of a metric like page rank or page authority but again these metrics are are not nearly as accurate
as as the actual end metric that google has now i will say that as we’ve moved on into the future of seo page rank does not matter as much as it used to it still matters a lot it still matters how
authoritative your website is based on the amount of links you have but a lot of the other metrics that have been being turned up like user-generated content user-generated signals uh brand
based searches so when somebody searches your brand all these user signals that people are that google can track from from its users now from the people visiting websites those seem to be
metrics that are a lot more valuable these days now should you spend a bunch of time worrying about this i don’t think so i think you should i think you should try to focus on the user as much as possible focus on your analytics data focus on your click-through rates focus on the things
that you can actually see the reason why google took out pagerank in the first place is because
google wants you to focus on the user rather than the link or rather than the page rank if you go into something like behavior site content landing pages you can actually see what your
conversion rates look like what your average session duration looks like what’s your about what your what your bounce rates look like these are the metrics that i would focus on and i wouldn’t spend as much time thinking about links
